Mucoid Plaque – the Colon

Mucoid Plaque – endangering our health?

According to Richard Anderson, N.D., N.M.D. the average western diet, due to an acute shortage of bulk and being acidic in nature, creates a condition called Mucoid Plaque in the stomach, small intestines and colon, affecting the majority of people.

A hardened mucous layer, can be several inches thick, but in most cases is less than ¼” (6mm) consisting of 50% carbohydrates and more than 20 amino acids, that can line the entire alimentary canal, from the tip of the tongue to the anus. This condition is rarely diagnosed as it has become a normal condition due to the modern lifestyle, most doctors would not be aware, as they have nothing to compare it with.

This plaque is created by the body to protect itself when it is under attack by acids, or toxic compounds such as drugs (esp. aspirin and alcohol) refined salt, heavy metals, toxic chemicals, etc, as well as incomplete digestion and absorption of carbohydrates.

In addition evidence now indicates that long term use of acidophilus, due to its creation of lactic acid, may also contribute to mucoid plaque development and other disorders. After a meal the body naturally attempts to digest and assimilate food, however mucoid plaque may inhibit this process. For it stands to reason that the body will attempt to assimilate anything in the bowel, even mucoid plaque.

One study revealed that when the body absorbs mucins into the bloodstream, it can cause hypercoagulability and venous thrombosis. (blood clots)

When the body tries to absorb food, but there is only mucoid plaque which acts as a barrier to the food, then mucoid plaque and whatever elements it contains are likely to enter the bloodstream. Therefore, it stands to reason that if we have contaminated mucoid plaque in our bowels, our blood will be toxic as well.

Advanced stages of bowel diseases such as diverticulitis, polyps, gastritis, cystic fibrosis, malignancy, inflammatory bowel disease, peptic ulcers, intestinal metaplasia, dysplasia, bowel cancer, and others, are in fact, actual transformations of mucoid plaque or are associated with contaminated mucoid plaque.

Since this plaque occurs in the stomach as well as the entire length of both the small and large intestines, it is important to cleanse the entire digestive tract. Yet, even those health care professionals who are enlightened as to the benefits of internal cleansing, generally consider only the first 4-6 feet of the colon.

However, it is more important to work on the 20 + feet in the small intestine, because that is where our food is digested and our nutrients absorbed.

He also points out a special combination of herbal supplements that can rid the body of these mucoid plaques.
(This plaque will build up again after removal, unless we consider improvements in our eating habits, like introducing more fresh uncooked fruit and vegetables and real live flour, that has been milled at a slow speed, leaving it intact, without removal of part of the grain.)
